CONTESTS
Pokémon Contests are a type of competition often contrasted with Pokémon battles and held in Contest Halls. Pokémon are judged on their condition and moves in two rounds, to determine which one is the best of its category. The Condition round is determined by the Pokémon’s Sheen and Apparel. The Display round is determined by the Pokémon’s moves and abilities. In total there are eight Contest Halls throughout the region, each one having three cups with five rounds in each cup. Unlike Gyms, these cannot be challenged in any order.
Each tick of sheen adds 5 points to a Pokemon’s score. Apparel adds different amounts that are displayed in their descriptions. Moves add points based on Power; if a moves doesn’t have power, like status moves, or power that fluctuates based on certain conditions, it will default to 50 points. Most abilities will add 20 points if they match the category, but Hidden abilities add 30.
The Display round is similar to a normal battle, however fainting an opponent will not guarantee a win. As a result, ending the round quickly isn’t recommended. The style of battle, and rules for what kind for Pokemon can enter, will change depending on the Contest Hall.
